Tata Punch Micro-SUV Revealed; Check Variants, Engines, Features

Tata Motors, has unveiled what the company says is India’s first sub-compact SUV, the Tata Punch. The Punch is a micro-SUV that will sit below the Nexon sub-compact SUV in the company’s lineup.“Tata PUNCH offers the agility of a hatchback and all key capabilities of a true SUV,” the company said in a release. Infact, the Punch is a very capable offering in its segment with a high ground clearance of 187 mm, 16-inch alloy wheels, 20.3 -degree approach angle, and 27.6-degree departure angle. Furthermore, Tata Motors claims that the Punch has 370mm water wading capability to enhance its SUV DNA. Similarly, boot space stands at 366 litres.On the outside, the Punch comes with R16 diamond-cut alloy wheels, projector headlamps & LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), signature LED Tail Lamps and dual-tone roof options that come in two colours- black and white. The Punch will be available in 4 different variants – Pure, Adventure, Accomplished and Creative, to cater to a different set of customers.The Punch comes well-appointed with many segment-first features like a seven-inch touchscreen with iRA connectivity suite, seven-inch TFT display for the semi-digital instrument cluster, rain-sensing wipers, automatic AC, and push-button start/stop, etc.The Punch ticks almost all boxes when it comes to safety. It comes with dual airbags, ABS with EBD and corner safety control and child seat ISOFIX anchor points. The Punch also gets a new feature called ‘Brake Sway Control’, which detects the tendency of instability during abrupt braking before the ABS kicks in to avoid vehicle swaying from the driving path.Under the hood, the Punch is equipped with the company’s New Gen 1.2L Revotron Engine along with the latest Dyna-Pro technology, which boasts 86 PS power & 113 Nm of torque along with a 5-speed transmission. Customers will also have the option of AMT which will get the Traction Pro mode for optimum traction over tough terrains. The Punch also gets two distinct driving modes - City and Eco - to suit a variety of driving styles and requirements. Apart from cruise control, it also comes with a feature called, ‘Idle Start Stop’ that automatically turn off the engine at signals and traffics to further enhance fuel efficiency.Tata Motors has not revealed the price or the price range for the Punch. However, as per media reports, it is expected to be in the range of INR 5 lakh to INR 8 lakh.
